High Performance Film Distribution, Fabrication and TEFLON® Coating

Over the past forty years, American Durafilm Co., Inc. has developed the art of thermoforming thermoplastic TEFLON® and TEFZEL® film to offer an innovative solution to some of the design problems encountered in many industries. Because conventional shapes (flat film, TEFLON® and TEFZEL® film, sheets, tubing, extruded profiles, die-cut parts, etc.) are often too expensive and cumbersome for specific design applications, thermoformed parts become attractive cost-effective alternatives to the engineer who may desire the properties of TEFLON®.

Thermoforming TEFLON® and TEFZEL® FilmTEFLON® and TEFZEL® Offer Many Unique Features

  • High Dielectric Strength: 6,500 volts per mil for one mil film.
  • Thermal Stability: from -400°F to +450°F.
  • Superior Anti-stick Properties.
  • Optical Clarity: 96% light transmission for thin FEP films.
  • Low Coefficient of Friction, Kinetic (film to steel) 0.1 - 0.3.
  • Chemical Compatibility: chemically inert and solvent resistant to most chemicals.
  • Heat Sealable: different shapes can be joined by welding.
  • FEP complies with USFDA legislations for safe use with food.

Through thermoforming, TEFLON® FEP, PFA and TEFZEL® film can be formed into three-dimensional shapes to take advantage of one or more of the above unique properties. Flat films with thicknesses of .002 " to .090" have been successfully formed for end uses in the following industries: lighting, pharmaceutical, chemical, aerospace, molding, electronics… and many others.

Capacities: Shapes can be formed on molds up to 20" x 30" with a 12" draw. Film thickness of .002" to .090" are possible for forming.

Tooling: American Durafilm Co. Inc. has on-premises machine shop capabilities for producing prototype and production molds.

Engineering counseling on film types and design configurations is available for anyone considering this approach in fabricated TEFLON®.
