VICTREX® PEEK™ Film
VICTREX® PEEK™ Films provide material solutions for engineers seeking extruded film that withstands harsh environments, provide high purity, possess excellent dimensional stability over a wide temperature range, provide ease of fabrication, and can be modified with fillers to enhance stiffness, tribological properties, and sealability. VICTREX® PEEK™ Films provide excellent properties even without fillers, additives, or modifications.
Key Features of VICTREX®
High Temperature Resistance — VICTREX® FILMS are the most thermally stable thermoplastics on the market. Sheet greater than 30 mil (0.75 mm) thick has a UL RTI rating of 500°F (260°C) for electrical use and mechanicals without impact. VICTREX® is currently generating an official UL RTI rating for 2-5 mil (50-127 mm) films. It is expected that these films will carry a RTI for electrical use of 392°F (200°C).
Excellent Tribological Properties — Inherently lubricious, very smooth surface finish, low particulation. VICTREX® FILMS have an Lpv rating of 20,000 psi-ft/min (42 MPa-m/min) without the presence of external lubricants. The Lpv rating increases to nearly 1,000,000 psi-ft/min (2,100 MPa-m/min) in the presence of small amounts of oil or water.
Broad Chemical Resistance — Insoluble in all common solvents. Excellent resistance to acids, bases, oxidizing agents, hydrocarbons, salts, and steam. Superior chemical resistance than many exotic metals. Properties unaffected by exposure to 392°F (200°C) steam after 2,000 hours.
High Strength and Toughness — Highest stiffness and resistance to cyclic fatigue of any thermoplastic. Strength maintained well over Tg.
Electrical Stability — Very stable electrical properties over a wide range of temperatures, frequencies, and humidities.
Radiation Resistance — Withstands over 109 rads exposure without embrittlement.
Low Smoke and Toxic Gas Emission — Very low levels of smoke and toxic gas during combustion. Contains no halogens.
Purity — Exceptionally low extractables. Will not leach or outgas oligomers, processing aids, or modifiers.
Tailored Properties
Since VICTREX® PEEK™ FILMS are thermoplastics, fillers, reinforcements, and additives can be compounded into the resin to modify film properties. Modifications and example fillers include:
- Static control — usually carbon or metal-based powders.
- Improved wear against soft metals — aramid fibers, PTFE powder.
- More lubricious and better sealing surface — PTFE powder
- Improved dimensional stability — ceramic flake, glass and carbon powder.
VICTREX® can provide technical recommendations for filler selections to meet your material needs and provide data sheets for compounded grades.
